Before the Flower

The root does its most essential work in the dark, before anyone sees what it is becoming.

Before the flower, there is the root.

Before the branch reaches toward the sky, before the leaf unfolds in the morning light, before the blossom opens and the fragrance rises — there is something working quietly underground. Holding. The bodhi tree is where the Buddha sat until understanding came. Not beneath the canopy. Not in the shade of the branches. At the root — the part that does its most essential work in the dark, that holds the whole living structure upright through every season without being asked, without being seen.

This bracelet is a full strand of bodhi root beads — each one slightly different from the last because nothing that has grown from the earth is ever perfectly uniform.
