Description
Before the flower, there is the root.
Before the branch reaches toward the sky, before the leaf unfolds, before the fruit ripens and falls — there is the root. Holding. Sustaining. Drawing from the earth everything the tree will need to become what it is meant to become.
The bodhi tree is where the Buddha sat until understanding came. Not the branches. Not the canopy. The root — the part underground, invisible, doing its work in the dark.
In Tibetan tradition, bodhi root beads have been worn for centuries — as devotion. A strand worn on the wrist, touched bead by bead in moments of stillness, each one a small return to what matters.
Some objects need embellishment to become meaningful. These do not. The bodhi root arrives already carrying what it needs to carry — centuries of meditative tradition, the particular stillness of something that grew slowly in sacred ground, the quiet reminder that understanding does not announce itself.
It simply deepens, bead by bead, in the wearing.
